The 41-year-old German supermodel, Project Runway host, America's Got Talent judge and mother of four is known for her elaborate costumes and
annual parties for the holiday. Friday's event, which marked her 15th Halloween bash and took place in
New York City, she wore a butterfly costume.
Of course, being Klum, this was no ordinary butterfly costume. It was the ULTIMATE butterfly costume, complete with elaborate makeup, body paint,
enormous, colorful wings and prosthetics resembling the winged creature's reflective, compound eyes.
Klum told E! News it took five hours to put all of it on.
"Then I just flew over here to the party," she said. Her kids, she said, thought her costume was "wild and crazy."
"They said, 'Are you really in there Mama?'" Klum told E! News at the event. "They weren't scared at all
but the one time that I [looked] like me but older, they were scared."
Klum is referring to her 2013 Halloween costume, an elderly woman. She was nearly unrecognizable.
Suffice to say, Klum's costume not the easiest one to move around in. At the party, she took off her wings after a while.
"I just can't see and I can't smell very well," Klum told E! News.
So why a butterfly?
"Well someone very special to my heart called me a schmetterling [German word for butterfly], so I wanted to be a butterfly this year," Klum told E!
News, adding, "They're just so pretty and colorful and I used to love painting butterflies."
Klum shared photos of her butterfly metamorphosis, as well as a time-lapse video, on her Instagram page.
At many of her past Halloween parties, the supermodel and then-husband Seal wore a couple's costume. The two announced their split in 2012, following a seven-year marriage, and their divorce was finalized two weeks ago.
Klum arrived at this year's event, which was sponsored by Svedka Vodka, with her boyfriend, Vito Schnabel, who was dressed as Marlon Brando's character Don Vito Corleone from The Godfather.
The list of celebrity attendees at the party included Gotham star Ben McKenzie, Ashanti, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl alum Michelle
Trachtenberg , Zoë Kravitz, Ice-T and Coco and Joe Jonas, who, based on his Halloween costume, has a rival who is so hot right now.
