How Game of Thrones' Purple Wedding Shocker Ranks Among the Show's Most Important Deaths

A little bit of advice to the characters on Game of
Thrones: don't get married.
The HBO fantasy hit has a tendency of turing weddings
into funerals and they did just that on Sunday night in
"The Lion and the Rose." Warning, major spoilers ahead!
In the episode, King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), one of TV's
most hated characters in recent history (or, you know,
just history), died at his own wedding celebration,
thanks to gulping down poisoned wine.
Yes, the King of the Seven Kingdoms is dead and the
fight for the Iron Throne just got a whole lot more
interesting. Maybe we could call is the Wild Wild
Westeros?!
While Joff's sudden death at the end of the April 13
outing was indeed shocking, was the Purple Wedding
able to top season three's bloody massacre that was the
Red Wedding, which saw the deaths of (again, spoilers
ahead!) Robb (Richard Madden) and Catelyn (Michelle
Fairley) Stark?
Before the season began, we ranked the 21 most
important deaths on Game of Thrones so far, and of
course, had to update our list after its latest kill.
Click through our gallery below to find out where Joffrey
ranks among the 22 most shocking deaths that have
gone down over the last four seasons.
