and one-sided--whether you're in high school or
Hollywood.
Case in point? Back in April 2011, Aziz Ansari
exchanged phone numbers with Blake Lively (!), only,
as the Parks and Recreation star revealed on Howard
Stern's SiriusXM radio show Monday, the Gossip Girl
star wasn't really interested in too much textual
contact.
So how exactly did Aziz, 31, and the now married
and pregnant star, 27, connect in the first place? "I
was at some event sometime and I had heard Blake
Lively was a fan," Aziz recalled. "I said, 'hello,' and,
we talked for a little while, and she was really nice,
and she was really into food, and I'm really into
food, and so we started talking about that and about
stuff...and we exchanged phone numbers."
Shortly after that friendly meeting, he fired off a
friendly text, writing, "Hey, it's Aziz. The animal
dinners are over now unfortunately but I will show
you photos from when I went. It was very tasty. Are
you going to the Met Ball?"
After receiving "no response" from the blond
beauty, who married Ryan Reynolds in 2012, Aziz
saw her "a couple days later" (May 2) at the Met Ball.
"I see her there, I'm like, 'Hey, it's me,'" he recalled.
"And she's bopping around to all these parties and
she's with Karl Lagerfeld...so, [later] I'm texting her
like, to see where she's at--this is about 11 o'clock
that night, and I text her again and say, 'Hey, it's
Aziz. Please tell Karl he needs to call me, it's been
too long since we bro'd out.'"
Admittedly, Aziz told Howard, he got "nothing,
again," from Blake! "And then later, I guess I saw her
again, and I sent another message late-night, saying,
'I'm going to the Boom Boom Room for that
afterparty. Hopefully this is your number? Either
way, good seeing you.'"

This time, though, he got a bite! "She said, 'Maybe I'll
see you. So weird, Karl was just saying how bummed
he was to miss you.'"
Admittedly, Aziz was "excited" by this textual
development. He texted Blake a joke about Karl
stealing a bow-tie of his, urging her to "say hi before
you leave [the [party]."
It just so happened that Aziz "did see her" at the
Boom Boom Room (in real life), and she told him
she was leaving early the next morning for an early
flight. Aziz said, "I sent her a message the next day
that said, 'I feel so bad you had to fly to North
Carolina after that party, it must've been rough. Karl
and I partied at Boom Boom until 7 a.m. Got tacos
the next day after and just had a beautiful spa day.
Next time we are in the same city, let's eat delicious
food.'"
Spoiler alert, Blake didn't respond. Aziz, though,
unscathed by her polite rejection, texted again many
months later, writing, "Happy Holidays," on on Dec.
17, 2011!
"I don't know why I sent this," he admitted to
Howard laughingly. And although there was no
response to that Christmastime text nearly three
years ago, he decided to give it one last try, texting
Blake, "Read these messages on Howard. Hope that's
cool. Doubt you'll respond to this."
Poor Aziz! Props to him for trying, though!
